International Youth Day
The United Nations designates August 12 as International Youth Day as an awareness day (UN). The first Youth Day was observed in 1999, following the adoption of a resolution by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) accepting the recommendation of the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth in Lisbon.
This day honours the role that young women and men play in bringing about change in addressing global issues and achieving sustainable development. It also provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges and problems that the world’s youth face.
Workshops, concerts, conferences, cultural events, seminars, and meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organisations are held around the world on this day. Youths have the ability and strength to dream, change, and improve the world.
