Jatindra Nath Das was a prominent Indian revolutionary and freedom fighter during the British colonial period. Born on 27 October 1904 in Chittagong (now in Bangladesh), he was actively involved in the struggle for India’s independence. Das is most remembered for his courageous participation in the hunger strike at the Lahore Central Jail in 1929, protesting against the inhumane treatment of political prisoners. He fasted for 63 days demanding better conditions for prisoners and ultimately sacrificed his life on 13 September 1929 at the young age of 24. His death sparked nationwide outrage and inspired many in the Indian independence movement. Das is remembered as a symbol of selfless patriotism and bravery.
