The theme for World Pneumonia Day 2024, observed annually on November 12, is centered on “Championing the Fight to Stop Pneumonia.” This year’s theme focuses on raising awareness about pneumonia as a preventable and treatable disease, particularly given its significant impact on children under five and the elderly. Pneumonia continues to be one of the leading causes of death worldwide, especially in low- and middle-income countries, despite the availability of vaccines and effective treatments.

The initiative encourages global action to reduce pneumonia mortality rates and aims for a world with zero preventable pneumonia deaths by 2030.
