Vinoba Bhave – A Brief Overview

Vinoba Bhave (1895–1982) was a prominent Indian social reformer, educationist, and disciple of Mahatma Gandhi. He is best known for initiating the Bhoodan Movement (Land Gift Movement) in 1951, where he persuaded wealthy landowners to voluntarily donate land to landless peasants, aiming to reduce rural inequality. Vinoba was deeply influenced by Gandhi’s principles of non-violence, truth, and self-reliance. Apart from social activism, he worked extensively in education, promoting basic education (Nai Talim) and self-sufficient village communities. Often called the “National Teacher of India,” his life was dedicated to uplifting the poor and promoting moral and spiritual values through simple living and service.

विनोबा भावे (1895–1982) भारत के प्रमुख समाज सुधारक, शिक्षाविद और महात्मा गांधी के शिष्य थे। उन्हें सबसे अधिक भूमि दान आंदोलन (Bhoodan Movement) के लिए जाना जाता है, जिसकी शुरुआत 1951 में हुई थी। इस आंदोलन में उन्होंने संपन्न ज़मीनदारों से अपील की कि वे अपनी भूमि गरीब और भूमिहीन किसानों को दान करें, ताकि ग्रामीण असमानता कम की जा सके। विनोबा गांधी के अहिंसा, सत्य और आत्मनिर्भरता के सिद्धांतों से अत्यंत प्रभावित थे। उन्होंने शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में भी महत्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया और नाई तालीम (मूलभूत शिक्षा) तथा आत्मनिर्भर ग्रामीण समुदायों को बढ़ावा दिया। उन्हें “भारत का राष्ट्रीय शिक्षक” कहा जाता है, और उनका जीवन गरीबों की सेवा, सरल जीवन और नैतिक मूल्यों के प्रचार में समर्पित रहा।
