About Ramkrishna Paramhansa
Ramakrishna Paramhansa (1836–1886) was a great Indian saint, mystic, and spiritual leader, regarded as one of the most influential figures of modern Hinduism. Born as Gadadhar Chattopadhyay in Kamarpukur, West Bengal, he showed deep spiritual inclination from childhood. He became the priest of the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, where he immersed himself in the worship of Goddess Kali and had profound mystical experiences.
Ramakrishna’s teachings emphasized that all religions lead to the same ultimate truth. He practiced not only Hindu paths like bhakti, tantra, and Vedanta but also followed the teachings of Islam and Christianity, experiencing divine realization in each. His life embodied simplicity, purity, and deep devotion.
His foremost disciple, Swami Vivekananda, carried his message across India and the world, spreading the ideals of harmony, self-realization, and universal brotherhood. Ramakrishna’s philosophy continues to inspire through the Ramakrishna Mission and countless followers who see him as a prophet of religious unity and spiritual love.
