Kharna: 26 October
Kharna
Kharna, also known as Lohanda, is the second and one of the most important days of Chhath Puja. On this day, devotees observe a strict fast from sunrise to sunset without even drinking water. In the evening, they prepare jaggery kheer (sweet rice pudding), roti and fruits as prasad, which is first offered to the Sun God and then shared with family members. Kharna marks the beginning of 36 hours of nirjala (waterless) fasting, symbolizing purity, discipline, and deep devotion toward nature and the Sun God.
