Kabirdas Ji Ke Dohe
Five Sacred Verses on Divine Love and Truth
Discover the profound spiritual insights of the 15th-century mystic poet whose words continue to illuminate hearts across centuries.
Verse 1: Divine Union
“Through constant remembrance of ‘You’ (the Divine), I became You,
No ‘I’ remains in me anymore.
I am completely surrendered and devoted,
Wherever I look, I see only You.”
This verse speaks of the ultimate spiritual achievement – the dissolution of ego and complete merger with the Divine. Kabir describes how constant remembrance transforms the seeker until only divine consciousness remains.
Verse 2: Complete Surrender
“Nothing in me belongs to me,
Whatever exists is Yours.
I surrender what is Yours back to You,
What cost does it bear for me?”
A beautiful expression of total surrender and detachment. Kabir reveals the wisdom that true freedom comes when we realize everything belongs to the Divine, making surrender effortless and natural.
Verse 3: Mind’s Victory
“Those defeated by the mind are truly defeated,
Those who conquer the mind achieve victory.
Says Kabir, God is found
Through faith of the mind alone.”
The mind is both our greatest obstacle and our greatest tool. Kabir emphasizes that spiritual realization comes through mastering our thoughts and cultivating unwavering faith.
Verse 4: True Spiritual Companionship
“I wander searching for a true lover (of the Divine),
But find no genuine seeker.
When a true lover meets another true lover,
All poison transforms into nectar.”
Kabir laments the rarity of true spiritual seekers while celebrating the transformative power that occurs when authentic souls connect. Such meetings can turn life’s bitterness into sweetness.
Verse 5: The Power of Truth
“There is no penance equal to truth,
No sin equal to falsehood.
In whose heart dwells truth,
In that heart dwells God Himself.”
Truth is elevated as the highest spiritual practice. Kabir declares that truthfulness surpasses all other spiritual disciplines, as it creates a pure vessel for divine presence.
