Jiveet Putrika Vrat: 14 September
Importance of Jiveet Putrika Vrat
(जीवित्पुत्रिका व्रत का महत्व)
Jivit Putrika Vrat, popularly known as “Jitiya Vrat”, is an important festival mainly observed in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh, as well as in Nepal. This vrat is dedicated to the well-being, prosperity, and long life of children, especially sons. Mothers keep a nirjala fast (without food and water) for 24 hours, praying to Lord Jimutavahana, who symbolizes protection and sacrifice.
The vrat signifies a mother’s unconditional love and devotion toward her children. It is believed that by observing this vrat with full faith, mothers secure their child’s life from dangers, accidents, and premature death. Spiritually, it also teaches the value of sacrifice, self-control, and prayer. Apart from its religious importance, Jivit Putrika Vrat strengthens family bonds, preserves cultural traditions, and highlights the role of maternal blessings in a child’s well-being.
