Karwa Chauth

Karwa Chauth 2025: 10th October

Karwa Chauth

Karwa Chauth is a traditional Hindu festival celebrated by married women for the long life, prosperity, and well-being of their husbands. It usually falls on the fourth day after the full moon in the month of Kartik, according to the Hindu lunar calendar. On this day, women observe a strict fast from sunrise to moonrise without consuming food or water.

The day begins with sargi—a pre-dawn meal prepared by mothers-in-law—followed by prayers, mehndi application, and dressing up in festive attire. In the evening, women gather for the Karwa Chauth puja, listen to the vrat katha (story of devotion), and later break their fast after sighting the moon and seeing their husband’s face through a sieve.

Karwa Chauth symbolizes love, dedication, and the sacred bond between husband and wife, and is widely celebrated across North India, especially in states like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
