History, Significance and all you need to know about the Mahalya

Today marks the auspicious day of Mahalaya, when Goddess Durga was created by Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwar to defeat the demon king Mahishasura. Celebrated for its spiritual and cultural significance, Mahalaya reminds us of the power of truth, courage, and righteousness. According to tradition, Goddess Durga travels to her parental home on Earth with Lord Shiva and her children, fights Mahishasura for nine days, and slays him on the 10th day, marking the beginning of Navratri and Durga Puja. It also coincides with the end of Pitru Paksha, during which people offer tarpan to their ancestors. Across India, Durga Puja is celebrated with elaborate pandals, artistic idols, and festive gatherings, culminating in the immersion of the Goddess, symbolizing her return to Mount Kailash.

आज महालया का पावन दिन है, जब ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और महेश्वर ने दैत्य राजा महिषासुर को पराजित करने के लिए देवी दुर्गा की सृष्टि की। आध्यात्मिक और सांस्कृतिक महत्व के कारण महालया सत्य, साहस और धर्म की शक्ति की याद दिलाता है। परंपरा के अनुसार, देवी दुर्गा अपने पति शिव और बच्चों के साथ पृथ्वी पर अपने माता-पिता के घर आती हैं, नौ दिन तक महिषासुर से युद्ध करती हैं और दसवें दिन उसे वध कर देती हैं, जिससे नवरात्रि और दुर्गा पूजा की शुरुआत होती है। यह पितृ पक्ष के समापन के समय भी आता है, जब लोग अपने पूर्वजों को तर्पण अर्पित करते हैं। पूरे भारत में दुर्गा पूजा को भव्य पंडाल, कलात्मक मूर्तियों और उत्सव के साथ मनाया जाता है, और दसवें दिन देवी की विसर्जन पूजा होती है, जो उनके कैलाश लौटने का प्रतीक है।
