About Quit India Movement

The Quit India Movement, also known as the August Movement, was launched by Mahatma Gandhi on 8 August 1942 at the Bombay session of the All India Congress Committee. It was a major civil disobedience movement demanding an end to British rule in India. It united people across regions and communities in a powerful resistance against British rule. Gandhi’s call of “Do or Die” inspired countless Indians to join the movement, risking arrests and repression. Although it was suppressed with force, the movement sent a strong message to the British that their rule in India was no longer acceptable.
