Valour Day: Celebrating CRPF's Defining Moment

Valour Day – Honouring Unmatched Bravery
📅 April 9

On April 9th, 1965, a historic chapter of courage was written by a small yet resolute contingent of the 2nd Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Stationed at Sardar Post in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, these brave men stood their ground against overwhelming odds.

Facing a full-fledged Pakistani Infantry Brigade, the CRPF jawans not only repulsed the surprise attack but did so with extraordinary grit and determination. In the fierce battle that ensued, 34 Pakistani soldiers were neutralized, and 4 were captured alive — a feat that has since stood as a rare and glorious example in the annals of military history.

What makes this victory even more profound is the fact that a handful of policemen held their position against a heavily armed military force, exemplifying raw courage and unmatched tactical resolve.

Tragically, six valiant CRPF personnel made the ultimate sacrifice during this heroic defense. Their names are forever etched in the heart of the nation.

As a tribute to their supreme sacrifice and unwavering spirit, April 9th is commemorated as “Valour Day” by the CRPF — a day to honor their bravery, legacy, and service to the motherland.

🫡 Salute to the Bravehearts.
