Children, whether male, female, or otherwise, are a blessing. They should be cherished on a daily basis, but it’s nice to set aside a day to honour them specifically; after all, there are mother’s and father’s day to honour our parents.

Daughters play an important role in any family. Daughters are worshipped as the goddess Lakshmi in India (deity of wealth and prosperity). Unfortunately, in many parts of the world, girls are always considered inferior. No matter how many slogans and messages about girls are spread across a country, their plight will never improve.

Every year, the last Sunday in September is designated as Interntional Daughter’s Day. The day aims to recognise that daughters can have just as much of an impact on the world as sons. It acknowledges girls as equal partners in society and the family system.
