Jyotirao Govindrao Phule was an Indian social activist, thinker, anti-caste social reformer and writer from Maharashtra. He was born on 11th April, 1827.

This important social reformer and thinker of the 19th century is said to have founded the first school for girls from the lower classes. He also pioneered the anti-caste movement and promoted women’s education. His work spanned many areas, including the eradication of untouchables and caste systems.
