Anant Chaturdashi is observed on the 14th day of the Bhadrapada month during the Shukla Paksha according to the Hindu calendar. This year, it will be celebrated on 9th September. The festival honours common brotherhood and the spirit of oneness by tying a sacred thread of cotton or silk with 14 knots on the devotees arms. The same day is also famous for the Ganesha Visarjan ritual.

Anant is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu which means eternal, and the word Chaturdashi, which means fourteen. On the eve of Anant Chaturdashi, men typically observe an Anant Chaturdashi fast in order to be cleansed of all their past sins and to ensure the well-being of their children and families.

The fast is observed for 14 years in a row in order to receive Lord Vishnu’s divine blessings and reclaim their lost prosperity and wealth. Pua and puri are offered to Lord Vishnu, then the Anant Sutra is tied for 14 days. The festival is celebrated with delight and enthusiasm.
