Happy Lohri

*”The sound of dhol is in the air, so dance to beats and share and care, May the rhythms keep you always happy”.*

The festival of Lohri is celebrated in the states of Punjab and Haryana. It is celebrated as a harvest festival of Punjab. It is celebrated by eating grains and roasted corn produced by the harvest.

It marks the end of the winter solstice, hence people celebrate to welcome the warmer, sunnier days.

A major ritual of Lohri is burning a bonfire at major crossroads in villages. The fire is burned at night after sunset. People throw jaggery and pulses into the fire. They wear new clothes and sing and dance around the fire, while singing Lohri folk songs.

The festival signifies the natural attachment of the people towards Mother Nature and their respect for the natural elements. The celebration begins when the winter ends for the year and the days begin to get warmer.
