“She makes the day brighter. She leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes.”
– Kate Spade

Every year on January 24th, India celebrates National Girl Child Day to raise awareness about girls rights, the importance of girls education and girls health. The initiative to celebrate the day came from the Ministry of Women and Child Development in 2008.

The day also aims to shed light on issues such as female infanticide, gender inequality and physical abuse. The main goal of the day is to highlight girls problems. National Girls Day raises girls awareness of their rights, the importance of education, health and nutrition.

In order to improve the status of girls, the Government of India has taken several steps over the years such as Save the Girls, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, free or subsidized education for girls, booking places for women in Colleges and Universities.
