National Farmers Day is celebrated every year on 23 December as a national occasion. Its main objective is to focus on the upliftment of the condition of the farmers in our country.

It is celebrated in the honor of former Prime Minister of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh. He was from a farmer family. This was the reason that he understood the issues of the farmers and hence, he tried his best to support them. He introduced many policies to improve the lives of Indian farmers.

When he became the Prime Minister of India in July 1979, he made many changes to improve the lives of farmers. In India, National Farmers Day is celebrated to honour the tremendous work done by our farmers.

Famers work in each season, regardless of whether it is cold of winter or summer. The farmers of India are known as the “Annadaata” or the food supplier of the country. Farming is the primary occupation in most Indian towns.

On this auspicious day various events, programmes, debates, quiz competitions, workshops, exhibitions are organized in agriculture to transform and educate farmers about agriculture and its importance.
