National Consumer Rights Day also called National Consumer Day is observed on December 24 to raise awareness of the rights of consumers and responsibilities.The enactment of the Consumer Protection Act aims to provide safety to consumers from a variety of types of exploitation like defective goods, deficiency in services, and unfair trade practices.

On December 24, 1986, the Consumer Protection Act 1986 received the due approval of the President of India, Jail Singh, and came into force officially.

Consumer Protection act seeks to provide consumers with effective safeguards against various types of exploitation, such as defective goods, lack of services, and unfair trade practices.This day provides an opportunity for people to emphasize the importance of the consumer movement and the need to make each consumer more aware of their rights and obligations.
