Every year, on the second day of Kartik Shukla Paksha, according to the Hindu calendar, Bhai Dooj is observed. Sisters offer prayers for the prosperity and well-being of their brothers.

On this day, they apply the auspicious “Tilak,” which is believed to shield their brothers from any type of misfortune. Sisters keep fast for their brothers and pray for them and in return they recieve gifts.

After defeating the demon Narkasura on this day, Lord Krishna went to see his sister Subhadra. When she applied the tilak and served the delicious dish, as his sister was happy to see him. Since then, people have begun to celebrate this auspicious day as Bhai Tilak or Bhai Dooj.
