Shri Ramakrishna Paramahansa was born on February 18, 1836 in the small village of Kamarpukur, a few miles from Kolkata, into a poor Brahmin family. His childhood name was Gadadhar and was loved by the villagers. He is perhaps known as the finest saint of the nineteenth century. He was an ultimate mystic and a true yogi.
He relegated the ritualistic practices into a distant background and emphasized upon the fact that god can be realized by love, devotion and self-assurance.
